• Creation of the Regional Planning Committee.

CREATION OF THE UNIVERSITY OF NICE. The University is officially created by statute on the 23 October 1965.

• Debate on scientific research in the French parliament.

• Creation of the Organisation d'Etudes et d'Aménagement des Alpes-Maritimes (ODEAM). (Study and development organisation in the Alpes-Maritimes).

1968

The University of Law, Economic Science, and Arts and Sciences on 3 campuses.

• Creation of the Bureau d'Industrialisation des Alpes-Maritimes (the Alpes-Maritimes industrialisation bureau)

• Creation of the Sophia Antipolis Association

1969  

• Creation of the Zone d'Aménagement Différé (Future Development Area) on the plateau of Valbonne.

1970 CERGA (Grasse), CNET (La Turbie), INRA (Antibes), Nice Observatory.
• The approval for the creation of a 2,300 ha, high-level scientific, industrial and service sector park with international scope to be developed on the plateau of Valbonne, by the Comité Interministériel pour l’Aménagement du Territoire (Interministerial committee for land development).

• Creation of the Syndicat Mixte pour l'Aménagement et l'Equipement du Plateau de Valbonne (SYMIVAL) (Joint Syndicate for land development for the plateau of Valbonne)

• The implementation of the Parc International d’Activités de Valbonne is declared to be of national interest by the Comité Interministériel pour l’Aménagement du Territoire. (Interministerial committee for land development). This is then entrusted to the French Riviera Chamber of Commerce by the SYMIVAL, as project developer, who then create a delegation for Sophia Antipolis to develop and market the Science Park. 1974 The first company sets up on the site: FRANLAB, a subsidiary of the Institut Français du Pétrole (French Oil Institute).

• Creation of the ZAC
(Designated Development Zone) AIR FRANCE (26 hectares).

1975

Relocation of ROHM & HAAS (from ZURICH).

• Enactment of " CHARTE DU PARC " (Science Park Charter) at the request of the Environment Ministry, which represents a moral commitment by all those involved, in terms of development of the site and preservation of the environment.

1976

ENSMP (Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Mines de Paris), CNRS (National Centre for Scientific Research) Laboratories.

  1977

AIR FRANCE’S WORLD RESERVATION CENTRE moves away from Paris.

Opening of the hotel NOVOTEL.

  1978

Ecole Supérieure de Commerce de Nice moves from Nice and founds CERAM.

• Approval in principle by a CIAT of the extension of Sophia Antipolis (twice its surface area).

ARTHUR ANDERSEN becomes ANDERSEN CONSULTING.

• Setting up of the MAISON DE L'ENTREPRISE by the French Riviera Chamber of Commerce: creating a dynamic environment for economic activity, putting companies from the Science Park in contact with companies from the outside, colloquia, seminars and themed breakfasts.

• Creation of the HI-TECH CLUB.

• Creation of the Direction des Pôles de Compétences Technologiques (Areas of Technical Expertise Division) (CCINCA).

• Sophia Antipolis is equipped with a 155 Megabyte ATM platform.

• The SYMIVAL is now called SYMISA

1997

ROCKWELL SEMI CONDUCTORS becomes CONEXANT SYSTEMS following a merger.

• Sophia Antipolis celebrates its 30th birthday. 2000  

• Côte d’Azur Développement is appointed by the SYMISA to take responsibility for the marketing and external communications for Sophia Antipolis.

• Jean-Pierre MASCARELLI, President of Côte d’Azur Développement, becomes President of SAEM Sophia Antipolis Côte d’Azur and the first Vice-President of SYMISA, who is in turn presided over by Charles GINESY.

2001

Mannesmann VDO Car is bought out by Siemens and becomes Siemens VDO Automotive.

Marconi becomes Marconi Communications.

Thomson-csf Microsonics becomes Thales Microsonics.

• The birth of the Sophia Antipolis Urban Authority, consisting of the following 14 communes: Antibes, Bar-sur-Loup, Biot, Chateauneuf de Grasse, La Colle-sur-Loup, Gourdon, Opio, Roquefort-les-Pins, Le Rouret, Saint-Paul, Tourettes-sur-Loup, Valbonne, Vallauris, Villeneuve-Loubet, with authority over Sophia Antipolis from 1st January 2002. 2002 + 33 new companies.
